Everet D. Regal – Photographer/Artist
While the subject matter of my photography has no conscious or deliberate boundaries, I began my journey with a strong interest in studio work, with models, fashion and avant-garde themes. Currently, I find myself most often involved with wildlife and landscape photography. This has evolved organically from my love of animals and my desire to be out in nature.
As a child, family trips, exploring our country from coast to coast, were some of my fondest memories. Through the window of a station wagon packed with five sisters, I gained an early appreciation for the endless diversity of our country. Even before my teenage years, I knew I would forever feel the need to explore, experience and appreciate the land. That was a precious gift from my parents.
Defining my style goes against my natural desire to avoid labels, but self-review of my current and past art, reveals a distinct tendency toward lines and fine detail. As a toolmaker and mechanical design engineer, I see a clear spillover into my art life. Composition, perspective and subtle details are a strong part of all of my images and have led me to focus on architectural photography for my main commercial service.
My interest in photography began in the 1970’s, where I soon realized I needed control of processing my film. I took night courses at SU for film development, but access to a darkroom was difficult. It wasn’t until high quality digital cameras became available, that photography really became a major part of my life. Now, with the tools to digitally process my own images, photography has become a very satisfying art form. For me, the editing process is where the artist puts their personal vision into the image.
In 2013, I made the decision to leave my 38 year career to pursue my passion for
photography full-time. Often heading out hours before sunrise, photography is a daily experience. Photography has taken me all across our country and twice to Europe. Along with strong world-wide art sales, my work has been published internationally and my work in Europe is archived in the Vatican.
My desire is to stir emotion and inspiration in others.
My greatest reward is having my images printed and displayed.
